SPP-PMW progressively recovers Paper Mill Waste as recyclable commodities

The SPP-PMW Series Closed Loop Recycling Plant is a high technology Mixed Waste Processing system that recovers and converts up to 500 tons of Paper Mill Waste (PMW) per day into recyclable materials.

The Plant is divided into two operational phases to process mixed waste:

    1) Main Process uses an automated water processing system to separate and output Clean Plastic Film (purity over 99%), Recycle Paper Pule, Heavy Plastic material.

    2) Recycle Material processing convert to Plastic Pellets, Paper Pulp, and RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel).

According to NRRI (Natural Resources Research Institute), Minnesota paper mills generate more than 250 tons or more than 12 truckloads of waste a day. In Wisconsin, the problem is much bigger-with some 3,000 tons or about 150 truckloads.

The most common method of disposal is spreading the waste on agricultural fields as a soil additive because it’s made up of inorganic fibers and mostly clay minerals. The least expensive option is to burn it. However, spreading has caused havoc on the environment with many discharging their chemical-laden waste and transporting requires a lot of energy because the waste retains 50 percent of its water content after it’s pressed. Land filling is the most expensive option because landfill space is becoming harder to find.

SPP-PMW could help paper mills save millions of dollars a year by converting a polluting by product into pure paper pulp, RDF, and plastic pellets/pallets.

2. Mixed Waste Processing

What are the constituents in paper mill waste that causes problems?
Paper mill waste contains between 250 and 300 chemicals, including dissolved organic matter, methanol, turpentine, acetone, fatty acids, cellulose decomposition products, lignin and tannins, sulfides, mercaptans, resin-acids, soaps, chlorine and caustic soda among others.

SPP-PMW Series is a fully automated plant that uses a perpetual water processing system to sanitize, separate, recover and reclaim the bulk of dirty PMW into reusable materials.

In SPP-PMW Series, circulating water is treated and cycled back into the system in a closed loop. Water and electricity usages are low, while emissions output is negligible.

Paper Waste is separated from non paper products such as staple pins, plastic laminate, tape and processed into mixed paper pulp.

Plastic Waste is recovered and separated into light plastic (PE, PP) and heavy plastic (PVC, PET, OPP). Light plastic is further processed into plastic film, while heavy plastic is processed into refuse derived fuel (RDF).

With the SPP-PMW Series, the environmental and economic impact of MSW disposal is considerably less than traditional methods, since only a fraction of the incoming waste is ultimately transported and disposed of through incineration or landfills.

SPP-PMW-processThe PMW (Paper Mill Waste) average content is 60~75 percent water.

Except water, content rate for Plastic is around 55%. Industrial paper mill waste paper contains wet strength paper saturated with 8% water and 20% of dry strength.

Paper mills with better equipment will decrease the percentage. The most difficult for processing is wet strength paper. The SPP series has more efficient Sonic Grinders (patent) than paper mills to process it. The design of Sonic Grinders which has an ultrasonic oscillation of 10k/min, produces quality paper pulp which can be sold for additional profit.

The example below is based on the Taiwanese plant. Obviously other countries would have a different PMW composition, pricing and costs.
