SPP-LFD progressively recovers Landfill discards as recyclable commodities

Today, most landfills (LFD) are separated into non-flammable and flammable waste. The flammable is disposed in incinerators and non-flammable is recycled or buried again.

This type of waste management is costly due to transportation, incinerating and  fill fees. In addition the recyclable material cannot be converted into reusable materials. The SPP-LFD Series recycles most of the waste and the landfill can then be used for other purposes.

The Organic Matter (kitchen waste, paper, garden waste) will compost over years and the Plastic Waste is recovered by the SPP-LFD and is separated into light plastic (PE,PP) and heavy plastic (PVC,PET,OPP). The light plastic is then processed into plastic film and heavy plastic is processed into refuse derived fuel (RDF).

By utilising the SPP Series the environmental and economic impact of MSW disposal is considerably less than traditional methods as only a fraction of the waste is incinerated or placed in landfills.

Landfill Discards (LFD)

The SPP-LFD Series Closed Loop Recycling Plant is a high technology Mixed Waste Processing system that recovers and converts up to 2500 M³ of Landfill Discards (LFD) per day into recyclable materials.

The Plant is divided into three operational phases to process mixed waste:

1) Pre-treatment uses automated mesh and magnetic separators to recover sand, soil and scrap metals

2) Main Process uses an automated water processing system to separate and out put Clean Plastic Film (purity over 99%), Heavy Plastic matter.

3) Recycle Material processing convert to Plastic Pellets and RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel).

Kitchen waste, paper , garden, wooden product after being buried for a few years is decomposed and after pre-treatment screening, air separation, magnetic separation, the sand, soil, glass and metal are removed.
The above is according to previous different countries MSW ratios formula calculations. It will vary according to number of years the waste is buried, all areas have some difference. Taiwan for example, above plastic percentage is 89.3%, but, after pre-treatment burial and recycle separation then the plastic percentage is 68%. It is because already buried more than 10 years, and 10 years ago the plastic is less used and those numbers are for reference only

According to an EPA report, the production rate of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) in 2005 was 4.5 pounds (2.04 KGs) per person per day, with a recycling rate of only 40%. The bulk of recoverable materials are disposed of as garbage in land fills or incinerators.

Low waste recycling rate is detrimental to the environment and forces people to set up more landfills / dumps to handle the increasing waste. These occupy land space and causes pollution (methane, sewage....). More over, the value that can be extracted from recyclable materials is lost as general waste.

Many Asian countries are facing landfill problems, in Jokada, Indonesia there are more than 100 and this puts pressure on city developments. Around 6 billion tons of landfill discards is produced annually in China and is increasing 4.8% pa.  Over 200 cities in China are surrounded by garbage. In Shanghai alone there are more than 600 dumps (each one 500M³) surrounding the city.

The Government is spending a considerable amount of money to dig and clean these up.

The bulk of this waste can be recovered and recycled with the SPP-LFD series Processing Plants.
